Transparency & Data protection | Commit to technological and legal innovation at the same time

It turns out that technological innovation cannot be viewed separately from revenue models and regulations; these develop in tandem. Regarding the collection and use of (sensor) data, some important questions need to be asked:

Who has control of data?
What purposes can it be used for?
How can a data monopoly be prevented?

Please share your thoughts and exchange insights here.

These are valid and important questions to ask for any contact tracing or COVID-related app governments or health institutions might endorse or suggest citizens to use. An interesting dimension here would be how current legislation relates to sensor data collection, especially for a relatively unique ‘use case’ as a global pandemic. In addition to who has control of data, who is responsible for data might also be an important question to ask (data controllers vs data processors as per the GDPR, for example).
